This month we're loving…

Here are a few of our favourite things!

Harris on show

Paul Harris - Tenere

Credit - Paul Harris

Travel photographer Paul Harris is the latest artist to have his work displayed at The Joe Cornish Gallery in North Yorkshire. The exhibition entitled ‘Tenere’ showcases Paul’s travels around the West African country of Niger, and includes capturing both the people and the stunning sand dunes. The opening on 31st July was celebrated with the musical accompaniment of West African band Etran Finatawa, which provided plenty on atmosphere on the night. You can catch is stunning exhibition until 2nd September.

Pure genius

The Genius of Photography

If you’re a photography fan you probably tuned into the BBC’s The Genius of Photography series, but if like me you didn’t catch it all you’ll be delighted to know that it’s now out on DVD. The informative six-part series takes you from the revolutionary birth of photography with Louis Daguerre and William Fox Talbot, to modern day greats such as Martin Parr. It’s an easy and enjoyable way to become an expert in the history of photography and fire up your own creativity at the same time.

Pick up a pen

Olympus E-P1

With the launch of the Olympus E-P1, or the Pen as it’s affectionately known, Olympus promises a new generation of digital photography. This 12-megapixel camera boasts the convenience of compact combined with the image quality of an SLR, plus high-definition video, interchangeable lens and creative art filters. Its retro style adds to its appeal, making the Pen a very tempting choice all round.

David Noton

Fancy meeting and learning from two exceptional photographers? Of course you do and here’s how. Leading landscape photographer David Noton is hosting his ‘Chasing the Light’ roadshow in Bristol on 9th and 10th September. The evening is described as a life changing evening of photography & world travel and tickets cost just £15. Steve Bloom meanwhile is giving an exciting seminar on wildlife photography on 14th October in London with tickets priced at £29, this includes a goody bag and hints & tips sheet. For both events it’s a case of book early to avoid disappointment!

Events and exhibitions you won't want to miss

Rankin Live

Rankin is really riding high this month with the arrival of Rankin Live, which is a dynamic mix of two great exhibitions rolled into one. Firstly I’m really excited about the prospect of the first Rankin Retrospective where we get to see 22 years work of exceptional work from the man himself, including shots of the Queen and Kate Moss. Secondly, there’s Shoot Me Rankin, the ongoing project to shoot 1000 people whose portraits will be immediately included in the exhibition. Admission is £10 and it’s on until 18th September at The Old Truman Brewery in London.

Aim high

Always shoot at the highest resolution you can to give yourself plenty of ways to get creative with your photos.
