Here are a few of our favourite things!
Canon has revealed it will be launching its first waterproof camera at the end of April. The 12.1 million-pixel PowerShot D10, which will sell for around £379, is the perfect accompaniment for your next holiday. It’s ideal for taking swimming, snorkelling and skiing as it’s not only waterproof up to 10 metres, it also boasts built-in shock resistance in case you’re in the habit of dropping your camera. Other features include: 3.0 x zoom, Scene, Motion and Face Detection Technology, and a 2.5” easy view screen.
If you want to encourage your little one to become a budding photographer, treat them to the new Kidizoom camera from VTech. It lets kids take their own photos, make movies and even play games. Its durable design and big buttons mean it's ideal for kids and they’ll love the fun photo-editing options, proving photography really can be childsplay. In fact the only thing you might need to be concerned about is your little one’s photos outshining yours!
Anne-Kathrin by Rankin!
Legendary photographer Rankin, famous for photographing Kate Moss, The Queen, Tony Blair and many more famous faces, is preparing for his next big project and this time he wants you! That’s right Rankin’s going to photograph 1000 Brits, taking just 15 minutes for each portrait from shooting to printing & displaying them. Portraits cost just £50 each with all the profits going to Oxfam. The event takes place as part of the Rankin Live! exhibition at London’s Truman Brewery in August. For your chance to be snapped by the great man himself, email rankinlive@rankin.co.uk with a photo of yourself and tell him why you’re worthy. Good luck!
This new photographic book from the National Geographic Society, titled simply Mothers & Children, is exactly as the name suggests. It’s packed full of poignant, moving and ahh-factor moments of mums with their children. Whether you just enjoy this book for the beautiful thing it is, or use it as inspiration for your own family photos, it’s bound to become a firm favourite.

This month’s must see event
Marc Riboud famously said, ‘Rather than a profession, photography has always been a passion for me, a passion closer to an obsession.’ This great love of photography is obvious through his powerful composition and the instinctive way he manages to capture fleeting moments of everyday life and turn them into works of art. In 1954 the Frenchman spent a month in Leeds documenting local life for Picture Post magazine. These images, along with more recent photographs from his 2004 return trip, make up the exhibition ‘A Lasting Moment’, currently showing at Leeds City Museum until 28th June. Admission to the exhibition is just £2, making it a real feast for the eyes without punishing your pocket. Make the most of it!

Natural personality
Capture people doing what they love, it’s a great way to put them at ease in a photo and give a feel for their personality.
Boost the texture
If your photo is more about texture than colour, try converting it to black & white to give added emphasis to the texture.
Get up close
Children’s young skin can handle even the closest of close up shots. In fact, it’s often the case with kids of the closer you get the more impact your photos will have.
Thank you so much! The calendars are amazing, I’m sure my family are going to be just as happy with them. Thank goodness my friend put me in touch with you!
