Twiggy was the world’s first supermodel and the most iconic face of the 60s. To celebrate her turning 60, the National Portrait Gallery is celebrating with a photography exhibition in her honour. Twiggy: A Life in Photographs showcases her incredible life in front of the camera, following her meteoric rise to fame right through to the present day. Exhibition ends 24th March 2010.

Shockproof Casio

Shockproof Casio

Casio has recently launched the world’s slimmest shock resistant digital camera, the Casio EX_G1. It’s ideal for everyone who likes to be adventurous or is accident prone, that’s because it’s waterproof, drop-proof and cold-proof. It’s just 20mm thick, boasts 12.1 megapixels, has a large monitor and looks pretty funky into the bargain! Expect to pay around £279.

Creative use of colour helps you capture really powerful pictures

Understanding colour is a fundamental part of photography, as it's one of the first things you notice when looking at an image. Master how best to use colour and you'll soon see an improvement in your pictures. Colour has a strong visual pull, so it makes sense to always use it to your advantage. For example, if the focal point of your picture is where the main source of colour is, the viewers' eyes will naturally be drawn to where you want them, adding strength to your image.

Photography tips

Showing off shape

Back lighting is a great way to emphasis strong shapes and gives a really artistic feel to a photo.

Avoiding flare

Lens flare is a common problem when the sun is low in the sky. Avoid it affecting your photos by using a lens hood or simply using your hand to shield the sunlight.

Impressive patterns

A telephoto lens can help accentuate repeating patterns and it compresses what it sees giving greater impact to the pattern.
